Nepheton (and other d16 instrument plug-ins) in Yosemitet

Post by moscom » Mon Oct 20, 2014 3:17 pm

Hi,

I encountered some troubles using d16 instrument plug-ins with Yosemite. I use Live 9.1.5 as my main DAW. Nepheton and LuSH-101 windows won't close once opened to edit the sounds. If I try and close them, the GUI disappears but it leaves a blank window behind. It is pretty annoying, and I hope you can solve this issue quite quickly. Note that other plug-ins such as U-He's or Native Instruments' do not behave like this after updating them.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers

Bump.

I am surprisd to see no answer. It is difficult to use Nepheton, LuSH and Drumazon with Live under Yosemite because of this problem. First, the plug-in windows do not close, and second, opening a new window to edit the sound again results in an increase of CPU load that makes making music difficult (and not fun at all)...

Hello Moscom!
Excuse my delay, as I have been busy with the forthcoming tour.

To the point though:
Have you tried both 32 and 64 bit?
What happens once you move the D16 plugin's window - is the area behind refreshed correctly?

Besides, do you own any effector-devices by D16? Like the Silverlines or Sigmund perhaps?
Once you don't I will ask you for a favour:
Download any of them as demos, please.
Let us know whether they cause similar problems.

Silverline and Sigmund were the last updated devices we have released.
This might be crucial factor to the compatibility.
And this is the actual point of this experiment.

Let me know!

Szymon.

Hi Szymon,

thanks for your message!
I own the Silverline and as far as I can tell, they all work fine. :)

I use the 32-bit version of Live 9.1.5, so I believe that the instrument plug-ins are also working in 32-bit mode. And the instruments are all used in their VST 2 version. I will check what happens in 64-bit though.

If I move the window of the plug-in just after opening it, the interface of both the plug-in itself and of Live remain normal, i.e. they refresh correctly. It is only once that I try and close the window of the plug-in that the problem appears. Then the plug-in window is entirely white. If I move this window, Live's interface is refreshed correctly. If I want to edit again the sound of the plug-in, I click on the wrench of Live plug-in container and I get a second window, that will also become white if I try and close it. and so on, and so on, until my computer chokes so much that it becomes unusable :)

I am not writing from my music computer, but later I can post some pictures to show you what I get if that helps.

Cheers

Here are some pictures to show you what happens with Nepheton.

Right after loading the plug-in.

Now I have tried to close the plug-in window.

I get exactly the same problem with live 9.1.4 running with Yosemite on Nepheton and Toraverb vst's.

But Audio unit versions works well and there's no problem closing the windows

Ah, thanks for the hint! I will use the AU then, while the VST's are being updated.

Moscom, hello again.

Is this Silverline 1.4 (newest ones) that you are use?
Besides, is Sigmund delivering any difficulties?
I am asking as I believe that a dated Framework that we use for programming might cause the current issue.
We plan to overcome and remove by the next maintenance update applied to all the Classic Boxes and LuSh.

Best regards.
Szymon.

Hi Szymon,

I use the Silverline 1.4 indeed. I do not use Sigmund though( I may have not been clear, sorry). The Silverline plug-ins work perfectly well too.

To go on with this topic, and as Laurent indicated, the AU versions of the plug-ins indeed work perfectly.

Thanks!

Thank You Moscom.

Laurent,
may I ask you what are the version numbers of your Silverline pieces?

Hi Moscom,

Sebastian here. Hope you don't mind i'm jumping into the discussion ;) By using Sigmund, we meant to try it out (even a demo) whether it'd give similar symptoms to exclude some potential reasons of this misbehavior of our plug in new OS X.

VST and AU formats doesn't differ if comes to aspects of using them, so if you can (for a little while) stick to the AU versions as the work around is great. AU and VST format differs only internally / technologically. From our experience we can tell that on Mac OS X the VST format seems to be more vulnerable to OS updates and changes, but no worries, we do our best to fix this as soon as possible.

Kind regards,
Seb

Hi Sebastian,

thanks for jumping in : the more the merrier :)

I will give Sigmund a try ASAP then. Anything that can help you guys at d16 debunk this problem is worth doing, especially since I like d16 plug-ins a lot :)

I will keep you posted.

Cheers

Hi Laurent,

Try updating Toraverb to the latest official version 1.4, which is available to download from our web site (and User Area as well).

Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

after update (version 1.4) now it's working well, no more "ghost" window for Toraverb.

Is there a fix for Nepheton as well ?

Kind regards.
