Phoscyon AU beta

Post by Sebastian@d16 » Tue Dec 23, 2008 6:30 pm

Hi,

We'd like to inform You the first beta of Phoscyon AU is now available
to download in User Area (add-ons tab). This is simply zipped
Universal Binary file and needs to be copied and extracted to a
Component folder in MacOS.

1) Download file "Phoscyon.component.zip"
2) Copy to "MacintoshHD\Library\Audio\Plug-Ins\Components"
3) Click on it to extract "Phoscyon.component"

Known issues in this beta version:

- Play live mode is permamently TURNED ON! It cannot be disabled
- Arpeggiator doesn't work yet
- Internal Sequencer doesn't work yet
- Internal loading and saving patterns doesn't work yet
- CPU path is NOT optimized - whole binary file works in Debug mode to
allow us to trace the bugs.

Whole synthesis path of Phoscyon works, including internal distortion
unit, storing and recalling settings within host project file.
We didn't manage to include as many features as we wished to before
holidays. The work over Phoscyon AU beta will be continued since
the beginning of January 2009.

Another beta of Phoscyon AU is scheduled for the third week of
January 2009.

Please post here about any appearing bugs or issues not mentioned above. Thank You.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Bug report:

1) Opening a Logic project with the Phoscyon AU beta resets its User Interface - visually. (The sound is just fine)

2) This may very well be a bug in Logic, and not in Phoscyon, but:
Situation: Say you want to create a long slide note that goes from non-accent to accent in the middle of the slide. The only way I can do that in Play Live mode is to have two similar notes overlap (otherwise the accent becomes too pronounced).
Problem: If you pause or move the playhead during playback, Phoscyon AU misses the Note Off event, and you get hung notes. This may require a few attempts to recreate, but I think the requirements are that you need to be in the middle of a looped region when you pause/skip.
For some reason, the "Send discrete Note Offs (Panic)" key command doesn't work. The only solution is to save and reload the project :(

System:
Mac Pro, Mac OS X 10.5.6, Logic Pro 8.0.2

Hi,

I was able to check it on two MacBooks with Logic 8.0.2 (MacBook and MacBook pro) with Tiger OS.

1) I was not able to recreate this issue. We need to look at it under Leopar. I believe it'll be matter of OS version (GUI handling in each of those OSes could be slightly different)

2) When I was trying to recreate this bug, in some cases I thought I had a hanging note, but all of them were cut when I press stop button. It also could be a difference between OSes, because Logic integrates completely within OS.

Anyway I added both those issues to a ToDo list, to check them under Leopard when we'll be compiling our plug-ins under this OS version.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Thanks for looking into it.

The hanging note bug is easily recreated if I move the playhead when the accented note is playing in the pattern below:

Image

Take notice of the overlap both before and after the accented note. If the accented note is moved to a non-similar pitch, the problem does not occur.

This doesn't happen with Apple's monosynths or AudioRealism BassLine 2. EDIT: They don't play the accented note
...but it does happen with TAL-BassLine-AU. :!: Maybe it's using similar frameworks or a similar VCA-gate approach as Phoscyon?

I'm going to try this on a different computer tomorrow (also with 10.5.6)

I tried Your pattern. When I press stop during playing that piece with 3 notes overlapped, the note hangs. But on my computer set this hanged note is off instantly when new note comes in to Phoscyon (even the same pitch). I'm waiting for leopard for my machines here.

Anyway my colleagues assured me the procedure of queueing the notes will be updated.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

User Area is for existing users/customers.
I am not a customer yet (will be as soon as you have AU available).

Please advise.

Thanks

Hi,

User Area is for registered customers only. At the moment Phoscyon AU beta works only as a sound module, controlled entirely by host application, you cannot take advantage of its internal sequencer yet.

Best regards,
Sebastian
