GUI look change ??

Post by djterrorist » Tue Mar 20, 2007 11:49 am

Seems that Roland Corp. were pretty agressive against the real 808-looking GUI and forced you to modify it ?

I liked a lot the old GUI better than the new one ...

Will it be skinnable ?

Drumazon has been promised the ability to skin it.
I would think Nephaton will be skinnable too :D
I also noticed that there seems to be 17 instruments and not 16 as stated in the information

Yes woodster, we decided to add this classic electro sound (sometimes called "zok"). We'll put some demo sample to our player soon.
I think You'll like it :D

I really like the new Nepheton GUI. The old one was cool too, but this new one is just great. So for me it's not a catastrophy. I'm only waiting for it to be ready :D. So hurry up :o

...and i think that the most importang thing is the sound.
Besides You can now tweak all the sounds separately :)

first i thought the old 909 skin was better - but now working with 1.0.3 i really think i like the new one better ... great job!

and yes: it's all about the sound & groove anyway!!

by the way: could you please make it possible to export groove to midi?

;-)

now mackie is gonna freak out over the knobs:) they look exactly like my mixer...

to be honest, i don't really like the interface, but i'm just little old me. it reminds me too much of a mackie mixer... a bit too clinical and practical... not crazy about the colour scheme... might look better in black, rather than the grey, but maybe that's too close to the 808.

i think marketing wise though, you should retain as much of 808 as you can legally get away with. if you were to see the new drumazon, upon first glace, in say a magazine review, you'd know it was from the same aesthetic family as the 909, graphically speaking...

the nepheton, upon first glace in a magazine review, remains a puzzle. it's not obvious that it is an 808 or even 808 sounding. it may not even be analogue, by the looks of it. it doesn't even look particularly electro, retro or hip hop oriented... i just think when you have such a good product, it would be a shame to loose potential customers based on the fact that they have 'judged the book by its cover.' part of me is inclined to think that it should look like it sounds, although that's an incredibly subjective opinion. if anything, maybe try an move towards an early 1980s industrial design aesthetic, like a sony TV circa 1981, or a hairdryer from sears circa 1979... i dunno... just thinking out loud.

the laser gun is a great idea, as are all the tweakable instruments.

and of course, the sound is the most important thing.

just my two cents. can't make everybody happy... that said, i dig the new drumazon.

I'm definitely going to buy this, and now I see the interface , I think somehow it wasn't so bad afterall to change,

as I understand you don't need to have this typical 808 switch between hi/lo conga etc.... right

@intrepidtraveller:

You know... Nepheton is brand new soft synth (dated 2007), so... why it should looks like an old '80s SONY TV? :D

Maybe because you are trying to emulate the classic synth?
Call me crazy but back peddling against the big corp does not change the original idea of design.

Bottom line is though the sound and function so I would not care about the look.
