Phoscyon 2.0 feature requests

Hi there
I've been happily using this very good sounding plugin and I made a few observations about the usability which would be great if you could implement them in v2.x
  • Full MIDI control of every single parameter/button/knob is a must. It's hard to use in live settings without it. (As mentioned in other posts and announced by you guys)
  • Half-tone steps on the tuning knob instead of those weird 0.13 and what not cent steps (whether touched by mouse or controlled with the APC), plus an additional global tuning knob in Hz (default 440 Hz +/–5 Hz) would make sense even if the Shift buttons at last will work in Midi.
  • While the GUI is fun & true to the original, it would be great to be able to switch to a graphic representation of all the steps simultaneously in a matrix, like in a piano-roll, and make every single of the steps toggleable through MIDI – it would make the life of all the APC/Launchpad etc. users out there much easier (and not just those).
Please add some more feature requests below if you feel like.

I would love to see a Matrix of the notes.

independent distortion effects, ie a separate load/save function of the distortion settings...

i know it seems a little redundant seeing that you can save the "patch" but sometimes i don't want to mess with the filter/sound control/arp section(s) but would like to reuse a distortion setting i used in another preset...this way i can propagate the same effect over several instances...

a pattern controlled filter (PCF) would also be cool (but i suppose i could automate that in my DAW)...

Hi,

Already on ToDo list
Half-tone steps on the tuning knob
We need to think up a smart way to utilize a single knob for that (two knobs would be bit exaggerated, or not?). Maybe by default knob would work discretely with half-tone steps, allowing to set transposition correctly, but when you use it with CTRL key pressed, the knob would work continuously with higher precision. What do you think?
graphic representation of all the steps simultaneously
Oh, that's definitely i second that too, we even think about making it default, because IMO (and i believe my colleagues share the opinion too) these days convenient editing is more important than reflecting the way of editing you can find in gear you emulate - it doesn't affect the sound, and annoys user who has never been using it. In fact Phoscyon 1.x almost completely doesn't reflect the way how patterns were edited on original 303 - it was a real pain to make a riff on Silver Box :)
independent distortion effects, ie a separate load/save function of the distortion settings...
Isn't it way too simple to make it presetable? I mean that's not a problem, but is that really a case? Wouldn't be simpler to make a "lock" function on a distortion section - so when you switch between presets the distortion block stays untouched?
a pattern controlled filter (PCF) would also be cool (but i suppose i could automate that in my DAW)...
Per step automation is not a bad idea, we've already thought about that.

Best regards,
Sebastian

hey sebatian,

about the distortion section, i was thinking of a separate preset to load and save the distortion settings...in some of my projects there are cases that i want to reuse a distortion setting but on a different preset...so what i'm doing now is opening another instance of physcyon, load the preset that has the distortion i wanted then go to the first vst instance and move the distortion knobs to match the second one...

i suppose i could keep doing this as it doesn't take too long to do...just thought it would be handy if a distortion setting can be indepandantly loaded/saved...if it's not implemented it's not a big deal after all this is just a fearture request...your "locking" sudgestion would work just as well ;)

cheers!

Is it planed to enhance the synthesis in the next version? Please dont get me wrong, I really like Phoscyon and I use it very often, but when I compare it to ABL2, ABL has a bit more pressure or punch, sounds slightly more "acid-tongued". ;-)

Hi.

We-re planing to definitely resolve the ABL/Phoscyon synthesis comparison within the next major update - that's for sure.
However... you should compare Phoscyon with TB303 - not the ABL. I think that ABL sound is too "round" or "wet" compared to TB303, additionally it has too much resonance and the filters are less stable :)

I wouldnt mind a VCA-unclick option as well. :)
Comparing with ABL2, is like comparing apples to oranges though, they are 2 different beasts doing their own thing imo.

Looking forward to this!

The only reason I haven't bought Phoscyon yet is that the sound is not as close to a HW teebee as I'd like.. Especially evident in your own youtube demo vid. When you turn the FX on, it sounds subjectively "the same" as the HW, but without FX, it's a bit off..

Now regarding the X0X drumboxes - those, at least to my ear, you nailed!

Can we have a "Classic option" that removes all additional d16 features and limits the functionality to that of the original HW. This will help all of those that can't achieve the original sound of the "TB"

This would also be great for the various drum boxes.

Hi,

I guess we could prepare such a skin with limited number of sound controls :)

Best regards,
Sebastian

Hi,

You're welcome, however i cannot tell you when it could be, since LuSH-101 is our priority task at the moment, so 2.x versions of Classic Boxes are postponed in our plans.

Best regards,
Sebastian

After a longer comparisson of ABL2 and Phoscyon I think you are right. I own them both now and I like them both. On one hand I think ABL sounds a little bit more aggressive and have more punch in the deeper frequencys.
But on the other hand, I think Phoscyons sound has a more lively analogue feeling touch. Not flat.

What's also a bit different; I think the sequencer-behaviour, the accent and glide of ABL sounds slightly more funky. (I compared two identical baselines - the behaviour is a bit different.)
