Im brand new to external vsts in cubase and cant figure out how to actually record the phoscyon in cubase. when i press record the phosycon starts playing and it looks like its laying a track down but there are no notes in the track and it dissappears when i stop the recording. please help.

in cubase when you record - you are recording MIDI notes in the case of VST instruments.. if you want the track to become audio you need to select and render it with "export to audio file"..

no problem - sorry for being so brief - i'm sure you know what i mean by 'select' - you can move the loop to render parts of your project.. you can also mute/solo tracks to render down only what you need..
