CPU usage problem (1.8 final)
I've noticed that Phoscyon 1.8 (non beta) is a CPU hog, same that beta version, when I compare it to 1.6. Also, if you turn on/off distortion Phoscyon uses the same CPU time, I think you could save some valuable resources here too.
Phoscyon 1.6 uses around 12%, while 1.8 uses 22% with same settings! (init program, saw wave, no disto)
I'm using Orion 7.62, WinXP Home.

Re: CPU usage problem (1.8 final)
I'm seeing cpu problems as well. Phoscyon used to take around 6 or 7% on my quit speedy computer. Now uses 11 or 12% with 1.8. I'm on a mac OS10.6.2 and I'm using the VST version in Ableton Live.
Is this normal for the update? Did the small changes of the update make it this much more cpu intensive?

Hi,
CPU usage increased, because we've changed a lot inside of Phoscyon, better interpolation, many changes in signal Path to increase quality.
LiquidProj3ct: if the details about your computer setup in User Area are still up to date, the CPU usage for your machine is in norm
Best regards,
Sebastian

Thanks for the answer. I thought that maybe it was too much for a single osc and a filter, or comparing with other 303 emulations, bad or good. And yes, that's my humble setup, my poor PC have nightmares and wake up sweaty when I told him histories about Shioitor
Re: CPU usage problem (1.8 final)
It's cool that you guys put even more effort into making it sound more authentic and all, I just wish there was a mode to have the quality setting as it was before (like an 'eco' mode). That would usually be fine, so it would have been nice to save cpu sometimes.

That's a good idea

Re: CPU usage problem (1.8 final)
Hi,
Machines are way faster now (comparing to the time when we released Phoscyon 4 years ago), so I think it's not necessary. We want Phoscyon to sound right.
Toraverb takes (in ECO mode) almost the same amount of CPU as Phoscyon 1.8.0.
On my medium speed machine (cheap core2duo 45nm) here, Phoscyon 1.8 takes about 7-8 percent of single core, is it that much?
Best regards,
Sebastian

I think an "eco mode" would be a nice idea too for Phoscyon. So that users have a choice (sound vs system resources) and everybody is happy
Re: CPU usage problem (1.8 final)
I think a new computer would a better solution
i just played with it for 2 hours straight on my iMac i7
it never spiked, crumpled away or went over 7% CPU usage.
That less than an average instrument and the sound is great too.
i like the Eco mode in Trilian for example , but here ?
I rather have a silver skin now

What if my CPU speed does not reach the minimum GPU Requirements? I am planning on getting the DIAMOND ATI HD 5770, and i seem to pass its minimum requirements except that the cpu speed requirement is 2.4 ghz, and i have 2.2 ghz. will that be a problem?

All those requirements are bit exaggerated to take into consideration users run also other plug-ins simultaneously, if you're able to use our software on your current PC, you do not have to be afraid.

Re: CPU usage problem (1.8 final)
When I wrote this post months ago I wasn't realizing that I was using my laptop with "laptop" preset in winXP energy options.
Now I'm running in my last song 5 Phoscyons, 1 Drumazon, 1 Nepheton, 1 Toraverb, 1 Decimort, 1 Devastor, two free delays, some compresors and eqs in a 2GHz Intel Centrino Duo T2500. I don't have any problem
