AU vs VST ?

I read a lot of people requesting AU versions of the plugins ... I'm a mac user myself, but don't really know what the difference is between AU and VST ... I use both AU's & VST's in Ableton Live ... what exactly would be the benefit of having an AU version?
the current VST plugings work just fine in Ableton ...

If anyone can clarify this a bit?

Thx!

The main reason is that Logic (very popular in Mac world) doesn't support VSTs - only AUs :?

There are of course some technical differences but even not worth mentioning IMHO ;)

Yeah I understand if your host app doesn't support VST's but aside from that ... I mean pure in use of the plugins, nothing changes? performance, sound quality etc. All those things stay exactly the same, right?

For me, as I use Ableton Live, there's no reason to pick an AU version of a plugin over a VST version or vice versa, is there?

Thx!

i'm using logic on a universal binary mac. most companies have au versions available as soon as they make universal binary versions anyway.

i bought a vst to au wrapper. i only had to use it in three instances :?: but only one works completely.

the real rub in most instances is universal mac. i had no idea they would make something so incompatible when i bought it.

Wouldn't it be possible to use PH/DR/NP as VST in Ableton rewired into Logic Pro ?
