808! 909! 303! WHAT'S NEXT?!?!?

Post by intrepidtraveller » Thu May 24, 2007 5:27 am

okay, now that we have unbelievably amazing versions of the 808, 909 and 303, i'm wondering if d16 has any thoughts on what their next VST might be?

i say do something totally original! no more clones or emulations, or if it is an emulation, tweak it and modify it so much so that it becomes your own synth or drum machine... there's really no point in entering into arturia territory - they have their own thing going...

so...

what else is left? more roland products? an SH-101 perhaps? a heavily modded TR-727 latin percussion module? or something totally original?

I vote for AU versions of what we currently have :)

I like DR008, especially because each module is straight forward. I don't particularly like the sound though.

I'd like to see a few individual vstis each with a maximum of 8 controls.

here is the dr008 FM drum module:

here's a quick mock-up of how each might look:

it would be simple to use; easy to know what's going on and have the great d16 sound

8 controls max so it can be easily hooked up to any midi controller

a button to RANDOMISE the sound would be great

they would just be midi controlled and just one drum per vsti

plus they would be relatively simple (i guess?) to develop

A GOOD clone of the 606 would be great. That open hihat is very difficult i believe. Even just sampling it is difficult, as for some reason it always just sounds ....a bit different than the original.

I think it has something to do with the upper harmonics or the transients, but i never really where able to sample that typical sparkle.

(i sampled mine with a gina soundcard, a delta 1010, an akai s300xl and an emu ultra64)

Now i have a new soundcard (rme fireface) wich i would like to try, but now my 606 stopped working :-( , so i can not test it.

A good vsti would be great (again)

Maybe D16 could have a go at it?
According to the people who say that software doesn't sound analogue, no analogue circuit comes even close to the ones implemented in software...

a 101 that could also be sequenced by the 303 (like cv out from 303 to cv in of 101) would be nice

I rekon that d16 would be the best developers to do an ems synthi vi. They know how to make things sound dirty.

The SH-101 seems to be a good choice for the beginning ...
But I've never see the very impressive Roland SH-5 in VSTi format ... It's a big lack ! May be D16 Group can do it ....

IMHO the powercore synthesizer 1 is a great SH101 tribute. It has to be the synthi.

at least an analogue synth that you can customize. pick any waveform you want, maybe be able to draw them, but especially something that can do EVERYTHING an alpha juno can do.
something with an interface like the alpha juno control

Here's two ideas:

- A sequencer plug-in. For example I love the 303 sequencer... esp random... you can get things you won't think of yourself with great grooves but now you are stuck with the synth it comes with... why not seperate it? Imagine using a vocal sample instead!

- Korg 700s
