Different CPU load on Snow Leopard and Windows XP

Post by Deckard » Sat Apr 17, 2010 3:47 pm

Hi,

i own a MACBOOK Pro 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR 3 Ram and got Cubase 4 installed under OS X and under Windows XP via Bootcamp.

I created a new Project loaded with all Silverline plugs ´till the CPU Usage shows around 95 % under OS X.
I opend the same project under Windows XP and i was surprised that the load there is only around 65 %.

Does the Silverline plugs need more CPU power under OS X?

Greetings

Hi,

It is possible.

First of all, we compile the same sources with two different compilers (for each OS). For windows we use Visual Studio C++ compiler by Microsoft and GCC for MacOS. And each of those OSes has different process management, this also can affect on efficiency.

We've noticed too that our plug-ins are bit more resource hungry on MacOS laptops (MacBooks and MacBooks Pro), but on Mac Pro with Xeon processors our plug-ins works very well and in efficient way.

Best regards,
Sebastian
