Where's the grit, dirt, noise, ...

Post by division » Sat Nov 19, 2016 9:34 pm

Oh guys, you've forgotten to add the noise generated by these old tape delays.
This thing sounds so awfully clean!
I was rally looking forward to the release of this plugin, but now I'm really disappointed.
And BTW: Why isn't it possible to change the model type by a parameter!?

Hi,

We focused on sound character only, not the side effects like crackles, dirt and hiss. These always can be added in post-processing.

As for the Model parameter, do you mean the automation?

Thank you,

Kind regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

yes I'm missing the automation of the used model. I'm focused only on Push 2 and MIDI controllers in my Ableton Live setup.
I don't what to touch the mouse and watch the screen during jamming.

That you haven't added the side effects is really a pity. The soul and character of these old machines is completely lost.
It sounds like a delay with a simple multi band equalizer in the feedback path.

Greetings,
Gerd

Hi,

Selecting Model momentarily increases CPU load of the plug-in and makes some "drastic" changes in the plug-in's guts, that can lead to the occasional unpleasant audible artifacts when sound's processed. We just didn't want to give the idea this parameter could be changed while playing a song by excluding it from automatable parameters.

Kind regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

I have noticed the glitches while changing the model.
I know the internal buffers have to be resetted, coefficients have to be initialized, etc. but I think that's okay!
When I change the delay type of external effekt processors it does the same.
Or have a look at all the reverb plugins that create artefacts while changing room sizes.
That's totaly okay, when it's depends on the way the plugin works.
The only thing that matters is that it's assignable to automation.

Kind regards,
Gerd

Hi,

In the approach we take on our plug-ins automation is strictly for changing parameters live, but we could add Selecting Model as one of parameters for MIDI Learn option. Would it be sufficient for using with Push?
Thanks,

Kind regards,
Sebastian

Hi Sebastian,

for using with Push it should be a regular parameter like all other parameters.

BTW:
Don't you have a Ableton Push 2 - Controller?? If not I really suggest you to get one and get an idea of what it could do especially to all of your X0X-Plugins.
It's the missing link between your hands and your plugins.

Kind regards,
Gerd

Hi Gerd,

I'm sorry, but despite our urge to posses all the gear there's it's not enough room at our HQ to gather it all together I'm afraid. So simply speaking we don't have Push :)

Ok, so the Delay Model should be regular automatable parameter, got it. Will consult it with the dev team and if they approve the suggestion will add it as ToDo for upcoming update.

Kind regards,
Sebastian
