I made this bassline in Live 9.0.4...

...when I exported my MIDI files and patches to Cubase, I get this...

I'm guessing Live handles legato differently or something? I have changed no settings, same patch...

Any suggestions to what might be going on?

Hi Simon,

I suppose the notes in the MIDI clip you used for playing LuSH-101 in Live and Cubase have perfectly quantized notes, including also the notes' ends. Furthermore i'm sure that the notes in this MIDI clip share same pattern; end of a note is located in exactly same moment of time as a beginning of subsequent note. Unfortunately this is handled differently by different host applications, some hosts treat the end of note and beginning of the next one in same moment as legato (overlapping notes), while some other hosts treat same situation as staccato (namely the separated notes). To be sure that the MIDI clip will be interpreted in same manner in each host application while you play it with LuSH-101, just move the ends of the notes to make the overlapping noticeable if you wish to achieve legato, or shorten a bit notes (make little gap between end of a note and beginning of next one) to get staccato.

This is good in theory, but in reality the notes are 16ths and there are only 2 notes, EEF#F#, so the notes won't slur. If I was to overlap the consecutive notes, the second note just doesn't play. I don't know how to get the bassline sounding the same in Cubase, very frustrating.

Thank you for sending me over that MIDI file. Just like i suspected, in MIDI clip you sent me, successive notes stick each other, namely end of one note is located in exactly the same place in time as a beginning of the next note. That's ambiguous for host applications, some of them interpret that as legato, other as staccato.

Original clip sent by you: Taking your MIDI clip, to have all notes be played staccato (Envelope re-triggered every time new note comes into the plug-in with Gate Env mode set) you need to make some space between the notes like that: Alternatively if you want notes to be played legato, you need to overlap them. If you will follow these two rules every host will interpret riff in same way. Btw. You can see on 2nd picture i had to join adjacent notes with same pitch together, because such situation would have never occurred if you played that on a keyboard - overlapped and adjacent notes with same pitch)

Thanks Sebastian, yes I have just taken out the filter envelope modulation and left the notes as they were. The bassline is from dubby track, seems a bit out of context here but... i have learnt the difference between Live and Cubase when it comes to writting chuggy legato basslines
