How to copy patterns?

Can't figure out how to copy patterns. Probably another simple thing that i'm over looking.
go in patt.write mode of the pattern you wish to copy press the command key (if you're a mac user, as I am) & click copy.
Now go in patt.write mode of the pattern where you wish to paste the pattern & press command + click paste ...
at least that's how I do it & it works fine.
