Ah, no that's only partly true..that's certainly more the case with the 909 of which there was a number of manufacturing revisions...but i have yet to encounter another TR-808 that sounds even slightly different to mine, they're pretty consistent...Pac wrote:*every* 808 will sound "a little" different mainly due to the internal pots and tolerances in manufacturing
I think this VSTi is a killer already. Well done guys!
As i said, i love the Nepheton soundset anyway, but you know people will ask 'how close to a real 808 is this?'
well i don't know but i sought for a few 606 samples
ofcourse I have no 606 myself ,never had an 808. SO i only base myself on what roland sampled in their E-70 keyboard, or tracks from the 80s,
I've got a 606 sample pack here:
http://rolandclan.info/en/samples/tr-606/
if you hear the cymbal, it's timbre is more spread across the hight spectrum and with the 808 the tones are more pronounced and sounds in a more definable tonal timbre, and you can hear a soft swoosh as well in the attack: (like i've always remembered it from past encounters with samples and music)...

nope, I mean tuning the element that forms the timbre of the snare (the one you can remove by dialing the 'tone' knob... not the noise itself...
I hope you could know if I post an example
you can compare it with the cowbell.. theres a 2 tone timbre in there that you tune.. wel in the snare there's also an audible sound of 2 tones...

I understand now. The example that You attached is simple sample pitch, but 808 have'nt such TUNING - the only control is TONE knob.
The TONE crossfades between lower VCO and hihger VCO mixed with lower. In other words when TONE is 0 then You hear only lower VCO and when it is 1 then You can hear both - lower and higher.
We simply wanted to reach the same snare as in 808
