clarification needed: native mode vs host mode

Post by nathanaelgrey » Wed Oct 20, 2010 3:42 am

hello people of this forum,

i want to use nepheton with fl studio and i got how to use the plugin internally. now i have a problem with changing patterns via fl studio pattern editor. i read that you can change the pattern with piano roll, but how?

i wanted to use native mode, because i'd like to make use of the internal variation cycles and only change the actual pattern from the host, but i'm not sure if it is even possible to manipulate anything in native mode from outside. so my question now is: is native mode completely self-contained or can i manipulate the pattern being played from outside?

thanks in advance,
n.

Hi,

It's not possible to use that way Nepheton in Native mode, you need to use Host mode instead.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Why do you NEED it in Native mode? Host mode does the same thing, it's no different, other than controlling it externally.

I think the same, Host mode is what you're asking for

Nepheton has separate pattern storage for Native and Host modes, because Host mode operates on simple 16th step long patterns, and Native mode's pattern storage reminds the original 808 (fill ins, A B 1 2 parts etc) -- this can be an issue against using Host mode.

Also in Host mode you're not allowed to use queues and perfect synchronization in patterns' transitions --- you need to use host's functionality in order to achieve that (on fly quantization).

Sebasqtian
