Send Note Names?

Post by Teksonik » Mon Feb 16, 2009 10:38 pm

Would it be possible for Drumazon and Nepheton to send Note Names to the Host in future versions? Here's a screenshot of Linplug's RM V in FL Studio:

I find this to be a very useful feature when using the Host's sequencer. Thanks for looking. :D

Hi,

We haven't idea such thing is possible. It's not covered by VST SDK standard, but it's very interesting and useful feature, thank You for the tip. Definitely worth to add to ToDo list :)

I found Your post on KVR about Synapse, which is going to add the possibility of naming midi notes in their Orion host. I hope the number of hosts supporting this feature will be growing :)

Best regards,
Sebastian

Thank you for your reply! Yes this is a very useful feature in my opinion. So far I know Sonar, Reaper and FL Studio all support note names and now Orion will join the group. Thanks for taking this into consideration and if you need any help testing this feature versions I'd be very happy to help. :D

Rich of Synapse Audio gave me permission to post this regarding the implementation of Note Names:

"From the plugins side, the implementation is trivial, they only need to fill in AudioEffectX::getMidiKeyName(), takes few minutes or so to implement. If Nepheton receives on all MIDI channels, they only need to return a string based on the key they get, e.g. key=60 they return "Kick", key=61 they return "Snare"- easy! "

Hope that helps!
:D

Hi,

Thank You so much for that, it helps a lot. Fortunately this method is supported yet by VST 2.1 and higher - now we have 2.4 and 3.0 :)

(I had no idea before what the name of this method should be :))

Best regards,
Sebastian

Hi,

I wanted let You know, we've just included that functionality into core of our drum machines and it'll be available within the next update. In host mode piano roll shows pattern' names and in external mode names of instruments.

Best regards,
Sebastian
