Drumazon outputs settings
As we have received many different requests about Drumazon outputs settings I have a question for all of you how do you want this matter should be done?
Please write what do you think should be the best standing from your personal point of view, favourite host etc.
If we got many different concurent opinions we can also solve this in the way that you will have ini.xml file with Drumazon config and you will be able to specify in it your choosen outputs config.
Cheers,
Przemek

Re: Yes!
While it's not much of a problem in the hardware studio to work with stereo effects on mono tracks, there's a fair amount of trouble with stereo fx on mono instruments in the VST world.oxident wrote:I also agree, make it "original"
No please - for the sake of compability and host conformity, make the outs stereo!

ps: i'd rather love to see the summed output saturated 909 style, when everything gets out there. if that hasn't been done already...

Exactly!...not to mention near 25 year old hardware would have been very expensive for all the extra outputs back then....but 25 year old spec in the 21st century virtual world ironically where most Fx are stereo and very few have mono versions so a lot of mucking about...it would be a bit of a pain in the butt. While it's not much of a problem in the hardware studio to work with stereo effects on mono tracks, there's a fair amount of trouble with stereo fx on mono instruments in the VST world.

The stereo output on the TR-909 is in fact dual mono. (perhaps with a 5ms delay on the right channel maybe)
There are no stereo instruments. Trumpets, digeridoo's, violins, snare drums, piano's, and all other instruments are mono.
A real drumkit is a combination of mono instuments places allong the line from the left speaker to the right speaker. Each instrument of the set has a dedicated (mono) mic placed along, above, inside etc.
Effect are not stereo either, all effects are mono. If you put a reverb on left and right channel, and close the right channel you still hear reverb on the left channel. The creation of stereo is only a delay or a slight shift in sound.
If you make all channels stereo you cant place instruments anymore from left to right, you also cant place fx along the same line.

(I'm already sorry for getting OT and probably spawning a rather unwanted side discussion...)
I honor that you have a longtime experience with slaughtering 909s for making hardcore, gabba etc - but eh - you should really reconsider above... Acoustic instruments and mono or stereo have as much to do with each other as, err, i don't know. Or would you say that you're able to catch the entire sound of an acoustic instrument (a piano) with a single microphone?
I regard that seriously whack (where you drunk when writing that

Acoustic instruments and that terminology have nothing to do with each other - different layers of reality.
[/end of OT]
Back to topic.
In the VST world all kinds of ugly things may happen when feeding a mono signal (and that's quite easy to determine in the virtual world - it's either or) into a stereo processing plugin. It could for example switch off the right channel, the stereo fx could jump into mono processing and output a mono signal etcetcpp...
It's just a bad idea.

So we made it with Master Stereo output and all 11 instruments' stereo outputs just to avoid any possible troubles as it seems to be in Stereo+11Mono config.
But if we got some requests after releasing to make it user defined we'll do such a possibility and then everybody will be able to make own output settings in configuration file.

I personally don't care for a master stereo output at all and think it just creates a mess. I think grouping channels should be left to the host, and any quarter decent host supports group channels.
As for stereo or mono, I definitely say stereo is a must. And maybe a stereo/mono switch for each channel would be good.
