PHOSCYON or Rebirth
Sorry, I cant give much of explanation, I am musician and producer , no geek,so look at thing practically and judge with the ears not specs given.
I always check the dry OSC, if this is weak no amount of tricks will turn it into fat and rich.
ABL didnt leave any impression, good or bad, while d16 had something to it so I bought it, nainly to have a standby when I need such sound and I am caught without 303 or Revo, or G 2. Plus i like to support some new people specially from not such prosperous country. Sweden gets enough of my money.

:] I have both. I have ReBirth as well. The Rebirth 909 and 808 ARE SAMPLED SOUNDS. THEY ARE NOT SYNTHESIZED. Add 4 claps in there, they all sound the same, that gets on my nerves!!!!! Thats why I got Drumazon. Sampled claps of the 909 are useless unless you find all 30 of them and use them. I mean 30 because the 909clap is noise with a "sawtooth" lfo. note that it hits different parts of the noise in each clap. DRUMAZON is the way to go for the 909 and Phoscyon is the best out of all the 303 emulators[my opinion]. It took me a while to get used to Phoscyon because I had no idea how to use it until I started playin with it a lot. Now I've got it all down pretty much.Przemek@d16 wrote:Exactly !
User's preferences decide. And most of real 303 freaks have both Phoscyon and ABL
Cheers and peace,

hi guys,
im new here and i thought i'd add my opinion to this debate.
firstly b4 anyone jumps on me i have got credentials. i've released acidtechno records for stayupforevr and i've used (but unfortunatly dont have ) real 303s as well as modded 303s.
abl2 for me is my first choice for a standard "growl" 303. the lower end is punchier BUT when i want something differant for a 303 sound i turn to Phoscyon.
i think both emulations are extremly good but comparing them is pointless. they are two totally differant beasts (they just happen to be based on a similiar idea). would anyone really try to compare a standard 303 and a devilfish?
heres an example of my work using both:
Ant & DDR - Acid techno all the time (rhythm technlogies rmx) - stayupforever rmxs 37
http://www.truelove.co.uk/sound/suf_rem ... r037_1.mp3
you can pre-order this (released 19th march) @ www.truelove.co.uk or at www.sufcollective.co.uk
sorry if this appears to be spam (its not) i just thought i'd throw it out for you lot..
anyway.. i hope to get into a lot more 303 discussions on here.. after all it is one of the greatest synths ever built (or emulated)
just bought drumazon yesterday. 1 word - AMAZING

In the past years I had a lot of 303 emulators/clones, and I even heard more of them.
So I know rebirth, I also know ABL. I had a Will Systems MAB-303, heard the Doepfer MS404, etc..
Finally I bought myself two original Roland TB-303 as there was no sound comparable...till phoscyon came out. So I sold already one of my tbĂ´s (IĂ´ll keep the other one due to nostalgy ). phoscyon is impressing! So if you want the real TB-Sound get phoscyon, forget about the others (ABL isnĂ´t that bad btw., it is easier to handle than phoscyon IMO, but phoscyon sounds much more authentic (in especially the distortion is great!).

Hi Everyone,
Im thinking of buying Phoscyon so I have tested the demo.
When using rebirths 303, I often apply 'slide' to all the steps which creates a smooth bass sound, as if all one note. I tried doing this with Phoscyon, but didn't get the same result, and it seems to cut out somehow.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible? Or If I have missed something obvious out?
Many thanks.

Thanks for the reply.
I ended up buying the full version. Im using a mac now and Phoscyon seems like the best option.
I tried a number of different combinations with all the relevant gate and slide controls.
If you have access to Rebirths 303 you should recognise what I mean straight away. If you apply slide to all the steps.. It plays what sounds like one continous smooth note. Allowing you to create smooth basslines with accents and pitch changes.
When I try to do this with phoscyon, and it cuts off, I have to lower the Event Threshold 'Gate' knob to get the sound back, and then it plays the notes again. But I can't achieved that smooth sound.
The closest i could get, was applying slide to all but one of the steps. This created a long sound, but unfortunately fades out at the end of the sequencer cycle.
Do you have any suggestions? Or is this just the way phoscyon is designed?
It would be a great shame not to have this feature, as some great basslines can be created this way.
Thanks

Send me two samples of what You exactly mean: one form Phoscyon and one from Rebirth to contact@d16.pl
I'll try to reach Your desired effect.

Has this been resolved? I tried this, too. Phoscyon gets retriggered at the start of the pattern, unlike Rebirth. I'm using ext seq with 'play live' switched off.monozuki wrote: If you have access to Rebirths 303 you should recognise what I mean straight away. If you apply slide to all the steps.. Phoscyon works exactly the same way as TB303. When You write pattern with all slides turned ON (every step) the sound will fall down slowly - it's because of VCA.
I think that Roland wanted to emulate "guitar bass slide" which is also not unlimited in time domain
Of course there is a possibility to add VCA switch in next updates.

ok back to the topic bro's Rebirth vs Phoscyon
Rebirth - pain in the ass to programe, seems to sound good in 'audition mode', but when i switch in 'song mode' to programe have to re-modify the knobs to sound the same as 'audition mode' but it never does sounds flat. Editing the autmation is a NIGHTMARE yuk yuk yuk
Phoscyon - ROKS ROKS ROKS , Thank god this plugin was designed. I cant say anything bad about it , very easy to program after playing around with, and editing the automation is a breeze
I never have owned a Roland TB-303 i want one but not at the ridiculos prices people are asking for. Clavia Nord Lead, Access Virus, Novation do make very good close clones but a very "Pricey" and takes forever to figure out + Hardware theres always gonna be noise factor to conider.

If PHOSCYON 2.0 will be ready... You don't have to - as Morpheus says15th SINE wrote:I never have owned a Roland TB-303 i want one
I don't know exactly when, but i promise that it should be the end of searching for perfect emulation.
Kind regards,
Jacek
PS as You can see my son is working on it now
