Modulation responds weird on toy box
Modulation responds weird on toy box
Hello,
I'd like to ask a question about some 'artefacts" that I hear when I use modulation on a very long reverb with a toy box instrument.
It seems to "crackle" a bit. Not that it causes digital clips but the reverb for the initial toybox punch seems kind of rough when you add modulation to the reverb.
First i'd like to present the sound in question where there's no modulation in question:
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1319539/s ... oacher.wav
Now the same sound but with slightly modulated reverb. I also turned up the wetness so you can hear it better:
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1319539/s ... ch-mod.wav
Here you can hear that the attack of the music box is somewhat repeated in a granular way.
Has this to do with the fact that you can only use "normal quality" in this version of toraverb ?

Hi,
When You set modulation level even at 10%, it makes sound really distorted and that's the normal thing . Could You please send me a dry wave (without the reverb at all) and the preset for Toraverb (with modulation set on value You used in second wave) at support[at]d16[dot].pl?
Best regards,
Sebastian

Here is the preset and a dry file.
I also tried it on this pc and I must be dreaming or something. On my studio pc, the same preset it sounds very granular , but on this pc sounds more smooth.
Could it be having something to do with the processor ? My studio pc only has a core 2 duo , thos one is a quad core.
preset: http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1319539/toyboxverb.trprs

ok to make it more clear (qoundwise) i recorded the same preset upstairs on my Core duo E6667 processor, then on the other pc with a quadcore Q6660. all done with the same preset you can download above.
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1319539/s ... -Q6660.wav
http://files.getdropbox.com/u/1319539/s ... _E6667.wav
it's a bit as if the slower CPU is having difficulties rendering the modulation as it if it would stutter, but the dry signal wouldnt stutter at all, and the "effect" is gone when I disable all modulation.
the "E6667" version also is recorded from cubase studio 5.0.1

Hi,
I've just compared all samples in previous posts:
"WitchEncroacher" - sounds ok,
"Dbd-witch-approach-dry" - with toyboxverb preset, sounds ok
"Dbd-witch-approach-mod" - the problem is that the original sample has been time warped or/and pitch shifted, and those algorithms are not perfect, so the artifacts just been brought out.
The first two samples has 27 seconds, the third one has almost 30. So I'd blame the interpolation algorithm in time warping and pitch shifting.
Best regards,
Sebastian

hmm i dont understand soemthing: I must have overlooked something.
But before I provide any more info I must check cubase studio 5.0.1 if it can timewarp live. I guess so , on a sample wave but the rendering i have made was from a self made intakt instrument with toybox samples which runs trough toraverb, so i might have overlooked that I do timewarping in the sequencer..
Very puzzling, as I thought this particular cubase project was just intakt VST , pianoteq vst and toraverb run on the 2 with the same preset (and for this demonstration i deactivated pianoteq).
Could timewarp in itself cause a real time reverb on a plugin with samples to behave like this ?
I know if you automate delay time or feedback on many reverbs or delays they will cause a weird shifting effect, but this: i'll have to investigate tomorrow...

Hi,
It's my bad, the "Dbd-witch-approach-mod" was exported in 48 khz, not as the rest in 44 khz, and when I loaded it to Cubase 5 with 44 khz project it was longer . I'm sorry. Anyway the preset You sent to me with the dry sample doesn't sound at all like the wet sample "Dbd-witch-approach-mod". Are You certain the preset You sent to me is correct? or some other plug-ins were inserted in between? or after Toraverb?
Best regards,
Sebastian

ah yes , 48k/24bit .... I've tried this here on the quad core pc as well but i'm curious that I dont get the same "bad" result as upstairs.
btw about the dry sample no, sorry, the dry sample was a real dry sample , i didnt think you wanted me to input it trough toraverb and set the fx to dry. I thought you wanted to experiment yourself.
